How much is my antique farm kitchen table worth?

by Mark on February 27, 2010

A question I hear a lot of is : I have just bought a real old farmhouse kitchen table from a flea market. It is made by hand, and not mass produced. How do I go about assessing it’s value?

The best thing to do in this case is to take pictures of the table and do an internet search for local auction houses, and then send the pictures out to them. An auctioneer there should be able to tell how much the table is worth from the pictures.

It should be noted though that these types of antiques are seldom worth any great amounts of money due to the amount of wear and tear a typical farmhouse table has seen. In fact, sometimes they are worth less than a contemporary model would be. However, on the other hand, depending on the type of wood the table is made of, and as long as there are no stains on the surface, it could be worth something.

The type of wood, construction methods involved, and conditon of the farmhouse kitchen table are the most important factors, but without seeing it directly, I would hazard a guess that it would be worth $300 +

To find out a more accurate price, take some pictures of the piece and send them away, because you may be one of the lucky ones!
